When Barnes and Nobel started offering the $50.00 gift card for Fathers Day, you had to think that a price drop was in the works, I suspected it was to soften the blow for the release of the nook Lite (non-3G version).

This is even better, the full blown 3G nook is now selling for $199. and they have released the nook Lite at $149. Wow this is a lot of reader for the money and the falling prices may not be done yet, Amazon answered with at price drop to $189 for the Kindle. I think that the nook is worth the extra $10, check out this former post for the reasons.

In fact I would seriously look at the nook Lite as I have not used the 3G to down load anything as of yet.

The release also includes an update to software rev. 1.4 with added access to all of the AT&T hot spot, a go to page feature and a new extra extra large font, here are the details that B & N sent to nook owners.

Dear NOOK Owner,

Go To Page Feature: Now you can jump right to a specific page number in an open eBook – it’s one of the enhancements most frequently requested by NOOK owners.

Engadget posted early this morning, an internal memo from Barnes and Noble that says the much anticipated software release 1.2 will be out this week. Dated Feb. 4th (Thursday) this week is almost over so they could be talking next week.

The other revelation in the memo is that the B & N stores will be receiving stock in the stores next week and they will have the release 1.2 software on them. As we reported yesterday the delivery delays for online orders are now gone and it looks like the stores will also be able to sell you a nook after you touch it, no more walking out the door with your head hanging and a longing feeling in your stomach. Take a look at the memo here, it is a pretty bad picture but can be read.

My wife’s nook shipped on the Feb. 3rd and is in Hodgkins, IL as of 12:00 am this morning, it is scheduled for delivery Monday and it will be interesting to see if the new software is installed. If it is not it could take a few days before we start seeing the over the air updates start to happen.
